Membership

At CEJILA, we believe that creating a more inclusive and representative legal profession starts with supporting one another. If you share our commitment to driving systemic change, and have care and/or justice-impacted experiences, we welcome you to join us as a member of our growing community.

Becoming a member of CEJILA gives you access to an exclusive and supportive community through our private Facebook group. Here, members can connect, share their experiences, and collaborate on projects which aim to drive systemic change within the legal profession.

Membership will also keep you informed about our latest events, resources, and opportunities through regular updates. Whether it's participating in discussions, or contributing to projects, membership ensures you are always in the loop and an active part of our mission to create a more inclusive and representative legal profession.

Please note that while we welcome all who resonate with our mission to contact us, membership is reserved for those who meet specific eligibility criteria to ensure the privacy and safety of our members.

We invite you to review these guidelines and consider becoming a member today:

Must be Care experienced and/or Justice Impacted

Care Experienced refers to those who have experienced statutory intervention by child protection services throughout their childhoods. Some, but not all care experienced people are also care leavers. Care Leaver's are those who, because of statutory intervention throughout their childhood, also experienced out of home care placements including placements with church, charitable and government run institutions and/or kinship and foster care.

Justice Impacted people are those who had exposure to the criminal justice system via their own involvement in criminal proceedings as a child or young person and/or they were children and young people whose childhoods were impacted by parental/carer incarceration or the incarceration of a significant other.

Respect People's Privacy

Being part of this group requires mutual trust. CEJILA respects the privacy of all its members and does not require any member to share the details of their personal story, within the group or publicly. Above all, CEJILA is a safe space for CEJIL’s to speak their truth, in their own language, and in their own time.

Be Inclusive and Supportive

CEJILA values all forms of diversity, recognising that CEJILs may also have additionally experienced diversity and adversity because of their race, culture, religion, disability/neurodivergency, sex, sexuality and/or gender (or a combination of these) and values the unique perspectives their membership brings to CEJILA. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.

Be Kind and Courteous

We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy discussions are natural, but kindness is required.
